  • Reports to the Board:
    • Student Representative Report: Jamie Gonzalez, Student Representative, stated that spring sports are off to a great start and commended all the players for doing a great job so far in the season.
    • TEAM High Report: Director Lesa Beuscher asked TEAM High Principal Dan Uhlenkott clarifying questions regarding the process of dismissing students from the program at TEAM.
    • Director Sarah Stuart requested the district’s new Community, Family & Student Resource Coordinator, Leslie Mohlman, to provide monthly reports to the school board on her program’s progress.

Board members had the following specific questions to the reports presented:

  • Board Reports, Requests and Comments:

    • Director Beuscher noted that she enjoyed a news release sent by the district earlier on Monday regarding two high school teachers who eliminated letter grades in their classes. She stated that it was great to see a new option for improving student learning.

  • Discussion Items:
    • First Reading of Revision to Policy No. 1400: Director Steve Madsen pointed out a few minor changes to policy 1400 covering Meeting Conduct, Order of Business and Quorum. The changes will be made and the revised policy will be presented at the next business meeting for second reading and approval.

    • First Reading of Revisions to Policies 4000-4330: Following a few typo error corrections, the school board agreed to move forward with the changes to policies covering Effective Communication, Language Access Plan, and several other policies. The policies will be presented at the next business session for a second reading and approval.

    • Overview of School Turnaround Principles 2, 3 & 7 and Planning for the next Work Session:  Assistant Superintendent, Asha Riley, presented detailed information on three principles about focused improvement in teaching and student learning. Protocols were laid out for the board members so they will know what to expect at the upcoming work session. Riley asked the board members if they would like Leslie Mohlman to be participate and the board replied yes.

  • Action Items:

    • Second Reading and Approval of Policy No. 4130 – Title I Parental Involvement: The Board of Directors unanimously approved Policy 4130 on Parental Involvement.

    • Second Reading and Approval of Policies 3232-3530: In reviewing the policies, Superintendent Michael Green noted that policy 3416 was being pulled as more revisions are needed. The Board unanimously approved the remaining Revisions to Policies No. 3232-3530.

    • Resolution 17-1 Public Access to School District Records: The Board of Directors unanimously approved resolution 17-1 requiring the district to maintain an index of all records and making the index available for public inspection.

    • Consider letter of support for Port of Woodland Grant Request: The school board reviewed a letter of support from the Port of Woodland permitting the installation of “dark fiber” in the area. The Board agreed that the letter of support for the Port of Woodland Grant Request was for positive intent.

    • Port of Woodland Contract for Grant: The board of directors unanimously approved a contract for a grant between the Port of Woodland and the Woodland Middle School for $7,000 to purchase robotics kits for middle school science classes.
