Re: December and January Review
Here is an overview of the key activities we worked on in relation to teaching and learning the last two months.
Monday's: Over the last two months, we had 5 Monday's for staff development. We used the time for Navigation 101 preparation, department collaboration, and School Improvement planning. January was a tough month to maintain any continuity because of only having 2 Monday's out of 5 where we actually had school. Nonetheless, the time was well used by our staff and we continue to be grateful for the opportunity to work together.
Finals: Finals went well with a high percentage of student attendance for the tests and a very serious tone was felt throughout the high school. A special thank you is order for Jody Brentin for building a plan that worked for our shared staff between the middle school and high school. This was important because we were running different schedules (the MS was traditional and the HS was goofy) during finals. We are looking at ways to mitigate this problem for spring finals.
Other information: Our staff met on the first Wednesday in February to review our data from 1st semester grades. We did have an increase in the percentage (19.6%) of students receiving an "F" grade from last year (18.6%) and this is a trend we do not want to continue. We will try to find ways to refocus our energies and reduce the number of students who are failing classes. Our 2nd semester classes have started and the transition to the new semester was smooth.
